About Prostar Construction
What makes Prostar different from other builders?
The biggest difference is our Owner-Led model. When you work with us, you work directly with me, Hamad, the owner and licensed builder. I am your single point of contact from the first quote to the final handover. There are no salespeople or layers of project managers. This guarantees absolute accountability, clear communication, and a personal commitment to the quality of your project that larger companies simply cannot match.
Are you a fully licensed and insured builder?
Absolutely, and you do not have to take my word for any of it. Prostar Construction Pty Ltd is registered with the Building and Plumbing Commission (formerly the VBA) as CDB-U 69713, and I am registered personally as DB-U 69208. Both are Domestic Builder – Unlimited. You can look either of us up on the public register, and I would rather you did.
On insurance: ask us for our current certificates before you sign anything, and ask every other builder you speak to for theirs. We will send ours through in writing, and you should not take any builder's word for it, including mine.
What areas and regions do you serve?
Melbourne's northern suburbs, from Pascoe Vale and Glenroy out through Lalor, Thomastown and Mill Park to Epping, Wollert and Mernda. Our four documented projects are in Lalor, Wollert, Mill Park and Pascoe Vale, so that is not a radius we drew on a map; it is where we have actually been building. If you are just outside it, ask anyway.
Can I see a portfolio of your work and speak to past clients?
Of course. We are incredibly proud of our work and the relationships we build. You can view our completed projects on our Projects page. We are also happy to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience working with us.
Services & Specialties
What types of projects do you specialise in?
We specialise in high-quality residential projects. This includes full home renovations, extensions, new home builds, and individual room transformations like kitchens and bathrooms. We also partner with architects and designers to deliver complex, high-specification architectural builds.
Do you offer design services, or do I need my own plans?
We offer a flexible, design-build approach. If you have ideas but no plans, we can connect you with our network of trusted draftsmen and designers to bring your vision to life. If you have already engaged an architect or designer, we are experts at collaborating and executing their plans with precision.
Do you have experience with sustainable or green building practices?
Yes. We are committed to building durable, high-quality homes, and sustainability is a natural part of that. We regularly incorporate features like high-performance insulation, double-glazed windows, energy-efficient appliances, and water-saving fixtures. If you have specific sustainable materials or technologies you'd like to use, we are happy to work with you to integrate them into your project.
Do you perform historic restoration or preservation work?
Our expertise lies in modern renovations, extensions, and new builds. While we have extensive experience renovating older Melbourne homes and respecting their character, dedicated heritage restoration requires a different set of specialist skills. If your project requires a heritage-certified specialist, we would be happy to recommend a trusted firm from our professional network.
The Project Process
What is the first step to starting a project with you?
The first step is our initial consultation. It's a no-obligation conversation where we listen to your ideas, understand your goals, discuss your budget, and explain our process. From there, if it's a good fit, we move forward to a detailed quoting and design phase.
What is a 'change order' and how are they handled?
A 'change order' or 'variation' is a formal document for any requested change to the original contract, or for addressing unforeseen issues. It is handled with complete transparency. We provide a document that clearly lists the cost of the additional labour and materials. This must be signed and approved by you before any of the variation work begins, giving you full control over your budget.
How do you handle building permits and council inspections?
We manage the entire process for you. We determine which permits are required, coordinate all necessary documentation from engineers and surveyors, lodge the applications, and manage all communication with the council and building inspectors on your behalf. This is a core part of our service, designed to remove the headache for you.
How do you protect my home from dust and damage during construction?
We treat your home with the utmost respect. Our team uses industry-standard dust extraction systems, plastic barriers to seal off work zones, and protective coverings for floors and furniture. We also conduct a professional clean-up at the end of each day to minimise disruption to your life.
What happens if an unexpected issue is found during construction?
This is where experience matters, especially in older Melbourne homes. If we uncover an issue like rotten framing, old wiring, or unexpected asbestos, we stop work in that area immediately. I will contact you directly, show you the problem, explain the options clearly, and provide a transparent quote for the required rectification work. This becomes a formal 'variation' that you must approve before we proceed. We handle surprises with honesty and expertise, not panic.
Costs, Estimates & Billing
Is the initial consultation and estimate free?
Yes, our initial consultation is completely free. Following this, for larger projects, we may proceed to a Preliminary Building Agreement (PBA) which involves a small fee. That fee buys the detailed quoting, initial design work and feasibility checks that a reliable fixed price depends on. The more of the job is known before the contract is signed, the less of it is left to a variation later.
Do you use fixed-price contracts or a cost-plus model?
We work on fixed-price contracts wherever the scope allows, because a number you can plan around is worth more than a number that moves. What makes it hold is the scope: the contract price covers the work described in it, and anything that changes along the way (a variation you ask for, or something we find once a wall is open) is priced and agreed with you in writing before that work proceeds. No builder can promise a number that survives a change nobody knew about; what we can promise is that you will never learn about one from an invoice.
What is your payment schedule?
We follow a standard industry payment schedule tied to the completion of key project milestones, as outlined by the HIA (Housing Industry Association). This typically includes a deposit upon signing the contract, followed by progress payments at the completion of major milestones (e.g., base stage, frame stage, lock-up, fixing). The full schedule is clearly detailed in your contract.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept payments via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) / bank transfer. All payment details are provided on our formal invoices, which are issued at each progress payment stage as outlined in your contract.
Do you offer financing options or work with third-party lenders?
We do not offer in-house financing. However, we work with clients and their lenders all the time. We provide all the necessary professional documentation that your bank or lender will require, including a detailed fixed-price contract, professional plans, and a clear payment schedule to facilitate your loan application.
Team, Materials & Quality
Who will be physically working on my project?
As the owner and registered builder, I (Hamad) am on-site managing your project. The physical work is carried out by my trusted network of master tradespeople (carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc.) who are all fully licensed, insured, and have a long history of working to my high standards.
Are background checks performed on your team?
The security and professionalism of everyone on your property is a top priority. Instead of formal background checks, we rely on something more powerful: long-term, trusted relationships. Every tradesperson who works on a Prostar site is a known professional with a proven, multi-year track record of high-quality work, reliability, and integrity.
Can I supply some of the materials or fixtures myself?
We generally advise against this as it can lead to warranty issues, scheduling delays, and compatibility problems. When we supply everything, we take full responsibility for the entire project from start to finish.
How do you ensure the quality of your work?
This is at the core of our Owner-Led model. I am on-site personally overseeing every critical stage, from the structural work and waterproofing to the final tiling and joinery installation. Because my personal and professional reputation is on the line, there is no room for compromise on quality.
Post-Construction & Warranties
What kind of warranty do you offer on your workmanship?
Your contract sets out the workmanship warranty that applies to your job, alongside the warranties every domestic building contract in Victoria carries by law. Ask us for those terms in writing before you sign. We will give them to you, and you should read them.
How are manufacturer warranties for products handled?
We manage this for you. At handover, we provide you with a complete document package that includes all the manufacturer warranty information for every product and appliance installed.
What happens if I notice an issue after the project is completed?
Our relationship doesn't end at handover. Your contract includes a defect liability period. If you notice any minor issues, we will schedule a time to return and rectify them promptly. We stand by our work and are committed to your long-term satisfaction.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance or service plans?
We do not offer formal, ongoing maintenance plans. However, our commitment to you doesn't end at handover. We build lasting relationships, and if you ever have a question, need advice, or require a recommendation for a specific task in the future, we are always just a phone call away.
